The story “A Rose for Emily” takes place in the town of Jefferson in Yoknapatawpha county. This story depicts her crazy life. It discusses the very odd relationships that she has with her father, the town of Jefferson, Homer Barron, and the disturbing secret that she hides.
The town admires Emily and they call her a “fallen monument”. The town views her as kind of a sweet little old lady and maybe a little crazy. As the story progresses we learn Emily’s deep and disturbing secret.
The town of Jefferson cannot understand why a Grierson would have interest in Homer Barron. For some reason Emily does though. The town suspects that they will get married and they finally do. One day Emily decides to go to the store and pick up some poison. The owner asks her what she is going to use it for. Right then we suspect something. She buys arsenic and we then discover the use for it a few line later. It turns out that she actually poisoned her husband, Homer Barron. After Emily’s funeral her two cousins and some other people went into her house. As they reach the upstairs they discover Homer laying in the bed completely decayed. It turns out the pillow next to him had a indentation of the head and had a long strand of iron-gray hair. She had been laying next to her dead decayed husband. Her secret is finally exposed.
